Giant Scale Packs... Because of the size and weight of Giant Scale aircraft, there are some special considerations to keep in mind when choosing a battery pack. Large, heavy aircraft require larger battery packs. The IMAA requires a battery pack of at least 1000mah or a battery backup system using 2 smaller packs in order for you to be able to fly at an IMAA sanctioned Fly In. We really feel our 1200 Series pack is the smallest which should be used for Giant Scale applications. In a few special instances it might even be necessary to go to the 3500 Series pack but this would only be for a very large, heavy, fast moving, aerobatic ship or one with many radio operated scale details. The 2200 Series pack is our most popular Giant Scale pack. If weight and size are important, take a look at the new 1200 and 1500 Series packs. If you think you'll need a really high capacity pack, you might also want to consider the 3500 Series pack or even the 5000 Series pack. When in doubt, you can always give us a call. Before you start thinking you need very large battery packs for complex Giant Scale aircraft with 10 or 12 servos, there are some things you should consider. Highly detailed, Giant Scale aircraft are not the kind ships you generally put 10 flights on in a day. Our guess is that you might only take 2 flights in any given day. For this reason, a ship with 12 servos that might average a current drain of almost 1 amp, would still work fine with a 2200 Series pack because the system would only be in use for about 40 minutes a day. As for battery pack shapes, this is where SR shines. We'll be glad to make any special shape pack you'd like. This goes for the leads, too. If you need a pack to go way up in the nose or way back in the tail of your aircraft, no problem. We'll be glad to extend the leads on the pack to whatever length you'd like. 2', 3' or 4' leads are no problem. When we do extend the leads on a pack we use a special, very flexible, 18 gauge wire that's like limp spaghetti. It's important that no physical load be put on the connectors or connections. This special wire absorbs the vibration and shock loads without transmitting them to the system. Remember, never charge a 1200 Series or larger pack with the 50ma charger that came with your radio. If you do, you will eventually crash! You must use higher rate chargers when you use bigger packs! We have a special series of 4 or 5 cell inexpensive chargers designed to match our packs. Don't take chances by using the wrong charger when the right charger is so inexpensive. Special shapes or wiring requirements are never a problem. We'll be glad to add any "custom" features you might like. Just indicate these requests on the special instructions section of the order form, or give us a call. If you need individual large cells for an onboard ignition or glow system, just give us a call. We can provide either individual cells or finished, wired packs. Listed below are the various
Series of receiver packs which are available. Select a particular Series or scroll through
the list. If you'd like a printed copy, just hit
your browser's "Print" command.
